After 10 years, 7 Days To Die prepares for full 1.0 release on PS5

There are heaps of RPG games to dive into these days on PS5 and Xbox, but not all of them can weather the storms of teething issues. 7 Days To Die has been through it all over the years, and after tons of updates and tweaks, developer The Fun Pimps is ready to give players the real deal. Now, 7 Days To Die early access is almost over.

“Version 1.0 is coming to PC & console soon with hundreds of new Trader VO lines,” expresses the developer in a recent social media post. Unlike older versions of 7 Days To Die, the upcoming 1.0 release will feature all-new voice talent from actor Vic Mignogna. Furthermore, the studio adds that the PS4 and PS5 co-op game is “targeting July 24 [2024] for the 7 Days to Die console edition launch.”

Originally released in December 2013, the apocalyptic open world game revolves around foraging for resources, fending off undead foes, and base-building mechanics in a world ravaged for chaos. However, early iterations of the popular RPG game have been…rough around the edges, to say the least. We’ve dived into multiple variations of 7 Days To Die with friends and in solo play since it came out, but we’re especially intrigued to see how the game fares after its 1.0 release.

With over 18 million copies sold, 7 Days To Die is viewed by many as one of the best zombie games out there, and we reckon it is worth experiencing alone for the mayhem of attempting to co-ordinate a successful base with your friends. If you’re a fan of multiplayer games like Rust, then you’ll definitely get something of 7 Days To Die’s take on the genre. However, if you already own the last-gen versions of the game, it won’t be a straightforward upgrade process to get some current-gen goodness.

In April this year, the developer expressed in a press statement that “due to the significant technical differences between old and current console hardware” that it wouldn’t be offering upgrades for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

That means you’ll need to purchase 7 Days To Die again, although it isn’t all bad: “[We are] working closely with Sony and Microsoft to provide a discount to digital legacy owners on their purchase of the new console edition.” Once the 1.0 release arrives, players can expect the last-gen version to be delisted.
